When Alcohol Poisoning Serves as a Wakeup Call for a Teenager
Filed Under (Alternative Medicine) by jeandit

Jeffrey was a high school freshman who usually seemed to be living on the edge. Jeffrey had a daring personality and regularly wanted to do what his older brothers were doing. The essential difficulty with this was that all three of his brothers were at least 21 years old and were therefore able from a legal framework to drive a car or truck and to ingest alcohol.

Jeffrey, however, had a tough time accepting the truth that as a fifteen-year-old teen he should not be drinking alcoholic beverages. In fact, in spite of this, Jeffrey regularly drank with his guy friends after school, predominantly on the weekends.

One weekend, Jeffrey made up his mind to drive around with some of his older friends. One of his buddies was old enough to purchase alcohol. After buying some wine coolers, wine, and beer, Jeffrey and his pals went to a public park and drank for just about three hours.

A Young Man Becomes Unconscious

After drinking roughly ten alcoholic benerages, Jeffrey started to feel nauseous and then threw up. When he lost consciousness on the tennis court, one of his pals called 911 for assistance. It was fortunate that the call for emergency assistance was made because when his cronies went to the hospital to see Jeffrey, they were informed that Jeffrey had been exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms. In a word, That is, Jeffrey had overdosed on alcohol.

When Your Cronies Drink Abusively

Jeffrey had learned that drinking a great deal can lead to alcohol poisoning but he never thought that this would affect him. After all, some of his friends over and over again argued that they could drink twenty or more bottles of beer at one sitting without experiencing any serious problems.

Armed with this information, Jeffrey was frankly shocked to learn that he had overdosed on alcohol because he “only” had more or less ten alcoholic beverages. When he explained this to the attending healthcare professional at the hospital, in spite of this, the physicain notified Jeffrey that drinking ten glasses of wine over a two or three hour time frame could actually be quite a bit more alcohol than can be processed by the body. The healthcare professional further stated how significant amounts of alcohol can cause the brain to shut down a person’s respiratory system and that when this happens, a person can die.

The First Symptom of Hazardous Drinking

This was the first cautionary message to Jeffrey that he was drinking in an unsafe fashion and that there are consequences for such activities. The healthcare practitioner told Jeffrey that he was a fortunate young man because he almost perished from an alcohol overdose the night before.

The doctor also conversed with Jeffrey’s parents and suggested that they get alcohol rehab for Jeffrey. His parents were pleased that Jeffrey was all right and informed the healthcare practitioner that they would follow through on getting Jeffrey alcohol counseling.

While talking to his parents, Jeffrey told them that there must be a solid reason why he did not die and that he felt grateful that he was still alive. He also told his parents that the weirdest part about the entire drinking event was that he had learned about alcohol poisoning the previous week in Mr. Franklin’s health class.

When Learning Something in Class Can Change Your Life

At the time, what his health teacher, Mr. Franklin, was saying didn’t seem to make too much sense to Jeffrey. Since he almost passed away, conversely, he felt that he should have listened more closely in Mr. Franklin’s health class and applied what he had learned to his life.

Jeffrey informed his parents that he couldn’t wait to go to school and make an apology to Mr. Franklin for not demonstrating more attention to a topic that was as important as learning about alcohol abuse and how to stay away from alcohol poisoning.

His parents smiled at Jeffrey and said that they were thrilled with the way he was being responsible for his injurious drinking activities. All he had to do now was to let this life threatening experience make an impact his life in a useful manner so that he would never again suffer from an alcohol overdose.
