Upper Management Initiates A Number of Programs To Cut The Costs Related To Work Related Injuries, Excessive Sick Days, Employee Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, Increasing Absenteeism, and Poor Employee Work Performance

Heather is a sixty-four-year-old woman who is the top administrator in the human resources department at a large plastics molding company. In order to trim down the costs linked to excessive sick days, increasing absenteeism, employee alcoholism and alcohol abuse, poor employee work performance, and work related injuries, Heather and the other members of top management created quite a few programs that made the work atmosphere significantly more healthy, safe, and more productive.

For instance, twelve years ago Heather and the other company executives put into operation an Employee’s Assistance Program so that all the workers had access to professional counseling for their personal problems that could negatively influence their work performance, personal well being, and their health.

As another example, approximately eight years ago Heather and the other company executives built a modern exercise and workout room complete with mirrors, scales, exercise charts, weights, many different types of exercise equipment, and a personal trainer during business hours.

Not only this, but around four years ago Heather and the other company leaders invested in a distillation system that filters all the drinking water that is accessible in the building complex. Likewise, two years ago, Heather and the other VIPs started a “walking club” that targets workers who want to further develop their cardiovascular system.

The Company Leaders Launch a Weight-Watchers Class and Employ a Weight-Loss Trainer to Oversee the Program

As another illustration, just about two-and-a-half years ago, Heather and the other company executives launched a “Weight-Watchers” class that presently meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 11 AM until noon. Moreover, upper management signed up a weight-loss nurse to oversee the program.

In a similar way, a year-and-a-half ago Heather and the other company administrators instituted a “Stop Smoking Club” for workers who want to abstain from smoking.

In the last nine months, in combination with the Employee’s Assistance Program, Heather and the other VIPs instituted an “Anger Management” class for workers who want to learn how to better deal with their anger issues.

The Company Executives Put Into Operation a Drug and Alcohol Testing Program

In the last three months, Heather and the other company leaders put into operation a drug and alcohol testing program that is related to their drug and alcohol abuse prevention program. In actual fact, Heather is the main individual in the company responsible for getting the message out to all the workers about the drug and alcohol testing program as well as the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program.

One of the major elements of the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program is a class entitled “Alcoholism and Depression” that meets every Thursday after work. The primary idea with this class is informing workers that abusive drinking and depression frequently occur in the same person. It is hoped that understanding this information will be able to help a person address both medical issues and get the alcohol counseling and mental health therapy he or she requires.

The Company Leaders Establish an Alcohol Statistics and Facts Class

Another fairly recent addition to the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program is a class entitled “Alcohol Statistics and Facts.” The rationale behind this alcohol statistics facts class is the reality that several people are unsuccessful in their attempt to understand the full impact of the effects of alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse without first hearing about some of the alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse facts and statistics that are available. As a consequence, one of the objectives of this class is to provide a range of alcohol abuse and alcoholism statistics and facts in order to help employees gain a better comprehension of the host of difficulties that are correlated with irresponsible and hazardous drinking and how they can stop these problems from transpiring.

Most recently, Heather and the other members of upper management, via suggestions from workers, developed a class that centers directly on severe drinking entitled “What is Alcoholism”? This class meets every Thursday morning a half hour before work and focuses for the most part on the differences between alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction, on the stages of alcoholism, and on the kinds of therapy that are available for people who have alcohol drinking problems such as people who drink in an excessive manner.

Even though every single one of these health and preventative maintenance programs was quite costly, the company administrators think that they are many thousands of dollars ahead by providing all of their employees with a safe, healthy, and more productive work environment.
