The Best Treatments for Sensitive, Dry Skin
Filed Under (Acne) by jeandit

If you have sensitive or dry skin and you suffer from acne you will need to take care to, not only treat your acne, but to take care of your skin. The majority of acne remedies will be very drying to the skin as they are intended to stop overproduction of oil and if you have dry skin this will only increase your problems . Your skin may become red, flaky and irritated. If you have very sensitive skin the ingredients in many of the acne treatments will result in redness and irritation so you need to be especially careful which treatments you use.

Skin Treatment for Dry and Sensitive Skin

As we get older our skin tends to become drier as the cells begin to secrete less sebum. Elastin and collagen in the skin are damaged and are repaired less efficiently, leading to drier, less elastic skin. Additionally as women reach the menopause the levels of estrogen decrease which also causes dryness. Dry skin can also be a result of very cold weather and for some of us with sensitive skin it can be very easily irritated by many of the ingredients in skin care preparations and cosmetics as well as fragrances or rough fabrics.

Acne Treatments For Dry and Sensitive Skin

1. Cleansing Products

A skin care routine including very gentle cleansing with a very mild cleanser and moisturizing is necessary if you have dry or sensitive skin. Cleansers that can be bought specially for those who suffer from acne aren’t very suitable for these skin types. They contain harsh chemicals for curing the acne but will more than likely cause irritation and redness on sensitive skin. You ought to use a gentler cleanser as an alternative that contains only very mild ingredients and will not irritate your skin any further. Don’t clean your face too frequently and on no account scrub strongly or use a harsh washcloth in an attempt to remove the dirt that is supposed to be a cause of acne. This will simply cause more irritation and spread the bacteria that cause acne around your skin which will inevitably bring about more flare ups. Cleansing twice a day is sufficient with a gentle soap. Use either your hands or a boiled, soft washcloth or if possible use disposable cotton pads.

2. Moisturizing For Dry and Sensitive Skin

You need to use a good quality moisturizer on dry skin so make sure you use a product that is very light and that will not result in an increase of oil and worsen your acne. Heavy lotions and creams are unsuitable as they will clog up the pores and set off more irritation.

3. Acne Remedies For Sensitive or Dry Skin

Some of the chemicals used in acne treatments include vitamin A derivatives such as retinol, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. For dry or sensitive skin choose one with a low concentration at first to see how your skin is affected. If it doesn’t cause irritation and redness you could use a more concentrated product. Don’t use all over your face but use a small quantity directly where there are pimples and apply only once a day until your skin gets used to it. You could also consider using a natural cure for acne such as tea tree oil, either in a purchased lotion or cream that contains tea tree oil, or by making a solution of pure tea tree oil diluted in water and applying it to your face. Tea tree oil has been shown to be nearly as effective as benzoyl peroxide without drying out the skin as much.

In Conclusion

Dry and sensitive skins do get acne and need particular looking after to prevent making your skin condition even worse while you are treating the acne. Always use acne remedies with as mild ingredients as possible and consider trying acne home remedies as an alternative to the harsher OTC preparations that are available.
