Suggestions For Solving Your Baby’s Sleeping Problem
Filed Under (Mental Health) by jeandit

Babies are notoriously fickle creatures. One day they will want to be put to sleep one way, but a week from now they may want to be put to sleep another way. Because of this, it is all too common for babies to have sleeping problems. Here are some ideas and information on baby sleeping problems to help you and your baby get a good night’s rest.

Follow Your Baby’s Cues

Each baby is different, and even babies have distinct personalities. Some baby sleeping problems stem from the baby being uncomfortable wherever you are putting him or her. A baby is in the mother’s womb for 9 months, and when it is placed on a cold, hard crib mattress, this could cause a baby sleeping problem. If you have a baby that simply will not sleep in the crib, there are a few things you can try to combat this baby sleeping problem.

First, try swaddling your little one. Basically you wrap the baby up like a sausage so that he or she cannot move his or her arms or legs. While this may seem cruel, babies are born with a Moro Reflex that causes them to uncontrollably flail their arms and legs. This can, and does, wake them up at night and cause them to have a baby sleeping problem. If you pin down their arms and legs, they will not startle themselves awake. Second, if your baby does not want to be swaddled, you can try co-sleeping. This is not something to be done on a water bed or on anything other than a firm mattress. Make sure that your baby is sleeping on his or her back at all times when co-sleeping. While this can help a baby sleeping problem go away, there are specific guidelines and rules to follow when co-sleeping. The baby can be allowed to sleep with parents after parents research them and perform all necessary preventions. If you do this correctly, however, it can be very rewarding and mean more sleep for all parties involved.

Some baby sleeping problems are not that they do not stay asleep, but that they will not go to sleep. This can be difficult. If you have a baby who will not nurse to sleep, be rocked to sleep, be sung to sleep, or cuddle to sleep, it can be a difficult infant sleeping problem to overcome. Let the baby to sleep on its own by placing it in a swing or in the crib. As long as the baby is not crying, this is a great method to help your baby fall asleep on his or her own.
