Denny is a seventeen-year-old teenager who has eventually made up his mind that he needs to go and see his family physician about his unhealthy drinking. At first, Denny thought he would be able to basically go on the Internet, look for some straightforward alcohol info and come to a decision whether or not he was dependent on alcohol.
Not surprisingly, he discovered a number of websites that highlighted some of the commonplace alcoholism symptoms. That’s the good news. The less than encouraging news, regrettably, was that Denny displayed a host of these alcoholism symptoms.

As an illustration, Denny has been drinking significantly more than customary and he has started to have more highly charged bickering with his girlfriend. Furthermore, for the first time in his young life he has been experiencing sleeping problems. Besides this, Denny frequently has felt depressed and on an increasing basis he has been manifesting limited attention to detail at school. Moreover, he has felt stressed out and more edgy on a day-to-day basis and for the past three or four months he has exhibited cloudy thinking at school. In view of the fact that Denny has been manifesting all of these symptoms, he was rightly apprehensive about his careless and excessive drinking.
So Denny finally determined that he needed to make a phone call to his family healthcare practitioner and schedule an appointment. In actual fact, this was hard for Denny because his family doctor was also his parents’ family physician. The origin of his uneasiness was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and disclose his excessive and unhealthy drinking behavior to his family doctor.
When Denny arrived at the family physician’s office, he frankly informed the family doctor about the apprehension he feels about his abusive drinking behavior. When the doctor asked what was bringing about this consternation, Denny acknowledged that he had gone on the Internet and read about alcoholism and especially about alcohol dependency symptoms. He then listed all of the alcoholism symptoms that he undoubtedly thought he manifests.
An Inclusive Physical Evaluation and Outpatient Alcohol Treatment
The doctor told Denny that it was smart of him to deal with his drinking difficulties, he gave Denny a comprehensive physical appraisal, and suggested that he talk to his Mom and Dad about registering in an out-patient alcohol rehab facility that was managed by Doctor Rudnick, one of his doctor partners who is a drug and alcohol addiction specialist.
Furthermore, when Denny stated that he has been feeling a sense of despair to an increasing extent, the physician informed Denny that alcoholism and depression on a fairly routine basis come about in the same person. Therefore, the doctor also recommended that Denny talk to his Mother and Father about seeking therapy to concentrate on his sense of despair. In fact, Denny can go to the local mental health facility and make an appointment with Doctor Truxton, a celebrated clinical psychologist who specializes in treating youth.
The Value of Coping With Your Drinking Issues and Getting Optimistic About Making Healthy and Positive Changes in Your Life
The family doctor made it a point to inform Denny that he might not inevitably be dependent on alcohol, but that he was undeniably drinking in an excessive manner. Stated another way, Denny was engaging in teen alcohol abuse. The physician then informed Denny that the reason he suggested alcohol rehabilitation in the first place was because he wanted him to confront his drinking issues, make sure that he stopped them from deteriorating, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to fully refrain from drinking.
In short, by successfully treating his drinking difficulties, Denny would be able to get his drinking problems under control and refrain from the negative cycle that could most likely lead to alcohol dependency.
Denny understandably did not look forward to facing his parents about his depression and his drinking issues. And he certainly did not want to face the thought of getting registered into an alcohol treatment facility. And lastly, he was not thrilled about going to a therapist about his excessive sadness. Notwithstanding these fears, nonetheless, Denny as a matter of fact experienced some emotional relief for the first time in quite a few months because in the end he gave up making excuses for himself and finally made up his mind to do something constructive about his abusive and careless drinking.
