A Registered Nurse Comes to the Conclusion to Stop Smoking, Quit Drinking, Start Exercising, and Go on a Diet
Filed Under (Diseases) by jeandit

For the past ten years Natalie has been a RN at a large Veteran’s hospital. As a nurse practitioner, she plainly knew what to tell her patients regarding their health concerns but in her private life, however, she clearly didn’t practice what she preached. For example, she usually drank quite extensively, she hardly ever exercised, she smoked about two packs of cigarettes per day, and she was approximately eleven pounds overweight.

Natalie Gets Into A Traffic Accident, Fails A Breathalyzer Test, and Goes to Jail

One afternoon on her way to her job, Natalie got into an automobile accident. Due to the fact that the accident was her fault and because her speech was slurred when she spoke, the arresting highway patrolman gave her a breathalyzer test. In accordance with standard police operating procedures, when a person gets involved in a vehicle accident and does not pass a breathalyzer test, the individual has to spend at least two hours in the local jail.

Actually, Natalie should have known better than to drive after she had been drinking because she recently went to an “alcohol awareness” class at the hospital that centered on information about alcohol facts such as the following: DUIs, binge drinking, alcohol poisoning, and the fundamental differences between alcohol abuse and alcoholism.

Natalie is Feeling Quite a Bit of Shame About Her Traffic Accident

Needless to say, Natalie was feeling quite a bit of shame about her car accident. Not only this but she experienced quite a bit of shame about the fact that the accident was her fault. And conceivably worst of all, she was feeling quite a bit of shame about the fact that she was driving while under the influence. As Natalie thought about her circumstance, then again, she thought that it could have been far worse because at the hospital, when a alcohol blood test is given and failed, the individual has to go to compulsory alcohol rehab and is placed on non-pay status. This was actually one of the alcohol facts that was a reality at her place of employment and not much could be expected to change this fact.

Natalie’s Disgrace About Her Vehicle Accident Motivates Her To Go Over Her Life and Make Some Substantial and Healthy Changes

In any event, Natalie’s shame about her traffic accident made her reconsider her life and make some remarkable and positive alterations. First, she was going to abstain from drinking in an excessive and hazardous manner. Second, she was going to quit smoking. Third, she was going to go on a weight-loss diet. And fourth, she was going to begin exercising.

As distraught as Natalie was about the entire traffic accident situation, she used this awful experience as a trigger for positive change. Moreover, she used her embarrassing experience as a wake up call that she had been overlooking her own health while she professionally told other people how to live a more healthy life. After all had been said and done, she eventually saw the fraudulence in her actions and decided that she would live her life as a constructive source of hope for the patients she saw at the hospital.
