A Professional Nurse Decides to Start Exercising, Go on a Diet, Stop Smoking, and Quit Drinking
Filed Under (Uncategorized) by jeandit

For the past twenty-five years Natalie has been a professional nurse at a large urban hospital. As a registered nurse, she undeniably knew what to tell her patients concerning their health problems but in her off-duty life, nevertheless, she undeniably didn’t practice what she preached. For example, she usually drank quite extensively, she almost never exercised, she smoked a pack of cigarettes on a day-to-day basis, and she was more or less twenty-four pounds overweight.

Natalie Gets Into A Traffic Accident, Fails An Alcohol Test, and Goes to The County Jail

One afternoon on her way to her job, Natalie got into an automobile accident. Due to the fact that the accident was her fault and since her speech was jumbled when she talked, the arresting officer gave her a breathalyzer test. As per standard law enforcement operating procedures, when an individual becomes involved in a car accident and fails to pass an alcohol test, the individual has to spend at least seven hours in the county jail.

As a matter of fact, Natalie should have known better than to drive after she had been drinking because she recently went to an “alcohol abuse awareness” class at the hospital that focused on information about alcohol facts such as the following: DUIs, binge drinking, alcohol poisoning, and the key differences between alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse.

Natalie is Experiencing Quite a Bit of Shame About Her Vehicle Accident

It almost goes without saying that Natalie felt ashamed of her traffic accident. In addition she was quite embarrassed about the fact that the accident was her fault. And maybe worst of all, she was humiliated by the fact that she was driving after she consumed a few drinks. As Natalie considered her situation, then again, she knew that it could have been a lot worse because at work, when a blood test for alcohol is administered and failed, the person has to go to obligatory alcohol therapy and is placed on non-pay status. This was simply one of the alcohol facts that was a reality at work and not much could change this fact.

Natalie’s Shame About Her Vehicle Accident Helps Motivate Her To Reevaluate Her Life and Make Some Relevant and Beneficial Changes

In any case, Natalie’s humiliation about her car accident caused her to reexamine her life and make some important and healthy modifications. First, she was going to refrain from drinking in a hazardous and irresponsible manner. Second, she was going to stop smoking. Third, she was going to go on a strict weight-loss diet. And fourth, she was going to begin exercising.

As disconcerted as Natalie was about the entire car accident situation, she used this heartrending experience as a trigger for healthy change. In addition, she used her upsetting experience as a wake up call that she had been neglecting her own health while she professionally told her patients how to live a more healthy life. After all had been said and done, she finally saw the two-facedness in her behavior and came to a decision that she would live her life as a constructive source of motivation for the patients she saw at the hospital.
