A Young Man Decides to See His Family Physician About His Depression and His Problem Drinking
Filed Under (Medicine) by jeandit

Denny is a fifteen-year-old youth who has finally decided to go and see his healthcare practitioner about his abusive and unhealthy drinking. At first, Denny thought he would be able to essentially go on the Internet, look for some essential alcohol info and make up his mind whether or not he was dependent on alcohol.

Not surprisingly, he found a number of websites that itemized some of the general alcoholism symptoms. That’s the good news. The less than encouraging news, unfortunately, was that Denny manifested several of these alcoholism symptoms.

Symptoms of Alcohol Addiction: Some Examples

As an illustration, Denny has been drinking much more than usual and he has started to have more fiery disagreements with his girlfriend. Furthermore, for the first time in his young life he has been experiencing sleeping difficulties. Similarly, Denny regularly has felt depressed and on a growing basis he has been demonstrating less than usual attention to detail in the classroom. In addition, he has felt highly stressed and more nervous on a day-to-day basis and for the past seven or eight months he has shown signs of hazy thinking at school. Because Denny has been displaying all of these symptoms, he was excusably nervous about his abusive and careless drinking.

So Denny finally determined that he needed to place a phone call to his family doctor and make an appointment. To tell the truth, this was difficult for Denny because his family healthcare practitioner was also his parents’ healthcare professional. The source of his worry was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and reveal his hazardous and abusive drinking behavior to his physician.

When Denny arrived at the healthcare practitioner’s office, he overtly told the family doctor about the fear he feels about his abusive drinking behavior. When the physician asked what was triggering this trepidation, Denny stated that he had gone on the world wide web and read about alcohol dependency and especially about alcohol dependency symptoms. He then mentioned all of the alcohol addiction symptoms that he undeniably thought he exhibits.

An Exhaustive Physical Assessment and Outpatient Alcohol Rehab

The family doctor notified Denny that it was intelligent of him to focus on his drinking problems, he gave Denny a thoroughgoing physical examination, and recommended that he talk to his Mom and Dad about entering into an out-patient alcohol treatment program that was supervised by Doctor Manning, one of his doctor accomplices who is an alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse specialist.

Additionally, when Denny articulated that he has been feeling depressed to a greater extent, the healthcare professional told Denny that depression and alcoholism regularly occur in the same individual. For that reason, the physician also suggested that Denny talk to his Mom and Dad about seeking counseling to attend to his depression. In fact, Denny can go to the local counseling center and make an appointment with Doctor Cerny, an eminent counseling psychologist who specializes in treating teens.

The Value of Coming To Grips With Your Drinking Problems and Getting Encouraged About Making Positive and Healthy Changes in Your Life

The doctor made it a point to notify Denny that he might not necessarily be addicted to alcohol, but that he was evidently drinking in an abusive manner. In other words, Denny was involving himself in teen alcohol abuse. The physician then notified Denny that the reason he recommended alcohol rehab in the first place was because he wanted him to deal with his drinking problems, make sure that he stopped them from escalating, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to entirely stop drinking.

To be brief, by successfully treating his drinking problems, Denny would be able to get his drinking problems under control and abstain from the negative series of events that could potentially lead to alcohol dependency.

Denny understandably did not look forward to facing his Mother and Father about his depression and his drinking problems. And he unquestionably did not want to face the thought of enrolling in an alcohol rehabilitation program. And finally, he was not thrilled about going to a psychologist about his depression. Irrespective of these apprehensions, nonetheless, Denny in point of fact experienced some emotional relief for the first time in quite a few months because he ultimately stopped making excuses for himself and at long last made up his mind that he needed to do something constructive about his hazardous drinking.
