Acne Symptoms And Causes Explained
Filed Under (Skin Care) by jeandit

For a ridiculous number of years acne has been the torment of many a teenagers life, and, a subject not easily talked about. People who suffer with acne have been aggressively teased and tormented, furthermore horrifically labeled with nicknames such as car crash face. Only those who have actually suffered from the disease can empathize how immensely damaging such name throwing can prove to be. Over time amazing enigmas have unveiled themselves in the causes and symptoms of acne which have also aided the formulation of effective treatments.

What Actually Is Acne?

Acne is the name of an inflammatory disease of the skin often found in teenagers. It reveals itself by the production of excess oil in the sebaceous glands in the hair follicles which often become blocked. it can alter the processes in the pores and follicles in the skin of the arms, chest and back but also including the face. those follicles and pores which have become blocked are medically known as comedo.

The comedone are the the plugs which block the pores which consists of sebum and keratin. A comedo can be either closed or open. An open comedo is what most people call a ‘blackhead’, whereas the closed comedo is what most people call a ‘whitehead’.

Once a comedone has formed it is usually followed by the most unpleasant and highly visible symptom of acne – spots. First the comedone becomes infected and with this comes inflammation and redness in the skin, which then leads to an outbreak of pimples. The spots frequently become filled with pus and the skin surrounding the zit looks very red and is sore to the touch.

There are two types of bacteria responsible for the inflammation and infection in acne, these are called Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes. As well as being responsible for the formation of pus filled pimples, acne abcesses and cysts can develop.

The Causes of Acne

Our Scientists have made great strides forward in the understanding of the process of creation of, and the management of, acne. Sadly there has little or no increase in the understanding of the causes of acne. Today, it is usually accepted thata collection of factors, for example stress, hormone levels and diet can all play a role in the development of acne.

Large numbers of scientists are currently investigating genetic theories in relation to acne. Even if they do not manage to find the exact causes we can be certain that the increased understanding of the disease will help in the creation of new treatments.
